2 - Let's cut that sucker open!
 |
This is a very important step, as you must be very careful not to reck your poor Furby's luxurious fur coat, or the unfortunate little creature may never be accepted back into the herd. Our goal is to remove the fur intact, to later be replaced, so the other Furbies don't know that their new friend is actually a computer enhanced droid under our control...
There are three locations where the fur has been sewn to the your Furby's exoskeleton (By happy and well-paid laborers in the south of China, I'm told). The base has been sewn all the way around, the mouth and eye area has a few large stitches, and there is one stitch on each ear to tie it to the plastic spike inside. There is also some light gluing around the ear/scalp area, but this comes off with very little effort, so don't worry too much about it.
To remove the stitching around Buck's base, I just used the blade from a reasonably sharp pair of scissors to snap each stitch. It was slow work, and it was a bit disturbing, as I had neglected to give buck any form of anesthesia... I will never forget his cries of "Party!" to the two onlooking Furbies standing nearby. The white Furby (The obnoxious one whoes IR transmitter doesn't work) kept taunting little Buck, "Kitty, kitty." I was really feeling empathy towards the little fella.
Empathy can't stand in the way of science, however. So I pushed on, removing stitch after stitch, gradually working Buck's coat up and over his head, until it was free. This really isn't rocket science, folks... Just be careful not to nick any major arteries, and the surgery should be a success! |
Skin removal and trauma:
| Looking back at the surgery, I realize that I should not have let my other Furbies watch the operation. Their delicate nature can be easily influenced by such traumatic events as watching a peer be cut into bits, apparently. White Furby has an attitude now, and either burps or farts every time you wake him, pet him, tickle him, or do just about anything else to him. This is not good. Luckily, he is mute, so he can't influence any other Furbies into this disgusting behavior pattern. But take this as a warning in your own pursuits: They watch, they learn, and they hold grudges. |
